Chapel
Our chapel theme for this year is “Jesus Gives Me Strength.” Through the weeks, we will explore various aspects of this theme.
Our first mission project is to provide T-shirts with the wording, “Cristo te ama” and John 3:16 written in Spanish. As our 8th graders are on their mission trip to Ysleta Lutheran Mission in El Paso from November 1-8, they will give these shirts to the people they meet in Mexico. The shirts cost us $4.00 each. from the last three chapels the students brought in $79.10, $96.69, and $85.50 for a total of $261.29. That means that so far we can purchase 65 T-shirts.

Volleyball
The volleyball season is underway! This year we have a total of 19 girls out for volleyball and they have been working hard. We are about half way through the season and both teams are looking great! The B team has won 3 of their last 4 matches. The A team has won all four of the matches that they have played. Both teams are headed to Wausau this weekend for a tournament at Trinity Lutheran. Keep up the good work girls!

A Note About Animals After School:
In the interest of safety, we would like to request that all family pets remain in the vehicles or at home after school. There are a number of children that are allergic to animals and we do not want to expose them if we don't have to. Also, we don't want any accidents to happen with the animals, especially dogs. Thank you for helping out in this way.

The One and Only True God.
“God, who has called you into His fellowship with His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.” 1 Corinthians 1:9

“FrOG”
F.r.O.G. stands for “Fully Rely On God.” You may have seen this acronym before on stickers, bookmarks, bracelets or pencils. It is much more than a catchy phrase. In 1 Kings 18: 20 - 39, we see Biblical evidence for this foundation of faith. Open your Bible and read this narrative. Elijah believed and trusted in Yahweh, the only true God of Israel. He also wanted everyone else to turn from their sins and believe in the God of Israel—the one true and only God. He challenged the prophets of Baal and the prophets of Asherah by proposing a face-off that they could not resist.
Both sides would prepare an altar to sacrifice a bull. Then, the prophets of Asherah would summon their god and Elijah would summon Yahweh. Which ever “god” responded with fire, would prove to be the one true God of Israel. With both parties in agreement, the prophets of Asherah went first but found no answer.
Elijah then confidently instructs the people to douse his pile of wood with water three times. What? Does this make any sense? Why would he do something like this? You’d think Elijah would be smart enough to know that wood does not burn when it is saturated with water. Forget burn, it won’t even hold a spark to potentially catch fire. It appeared that Elijah was waving the white flag and surrendering.
But Elijah had something the others did not. He FULLY reLIeD ON GOD. Even with water-soaked kindling, Elijah boldly called out to Yahweh to light a fire and God responded. Defying all common sense, Yahweh used water to show that He is indeed the ONLY true God.
There are always times when we get caught up in our lives and do not fully rely on God. We may not be worshipping false gods, but we are certainly not calling out to the fire-making God of Israel. Maybe it happens when your prayers are not answered quite like you were expecting. Maybe it happens when you don’t get the salary boost for which you were hoping. Perhaps it happens when trouble strikes and you begin to despair, or you’re just stuck in a rut and down in the dumps with no apparent way out.
These are the times when you need to step back and trust our God in His love and grace to be God. Remember the confident words of Elijah and the certainty he had that Yahweh would display His love. He always works for what is best for you, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose” (Rom. 8: 28).
In your baptism, Yahweh continues to do miraculous things with water. He brings us into His family. He reveals in strongest form, His power to overcome sin and to give us forgiveness for times when we rely on anything other than Him. As did Elijah, we can with great confidence fully rely on our gracious God!
