CHECK OUT OUR LIBRARY! - If you haven’t visited the new Church Library yet, you are most welcome to stop by the north end of the Narthex and check it out! If you find something you’d like to read, sign your name and phone number on the book’s check out card and leave the card in the basket.
Several good books that people have recommended for check-out are: A Skeleton in God’s Closet and Daniel. A favorite section for many people is 921, the call number for biography; there you will find lots of good books, including one about Martin Luther’s wife, Katherine. It’s called Kitty, My Rib, and is an easy-reading introduction to life in Wittenberg with the famous Dr Luther!
125th Anniversary begins in less than 3 months! A logo has been chosen which incorporates our theme verse from Psalm 89:1 as well as a dove which symbolizes peace. It was a dove that returned to Noah and the ark bearing an olive leave in its beak, a sign that new life had begun on earth, and that the time God's judgment had been completed. It was also as a dove that the Holy Spirit descended from heaven and lighted upon Jesus at the time of His baptism, a sign of God's approval and unity in accomplishing His plan of salvation for this world. The dove was used in previous anniversary celebrations at Peace and reminds us of our connection to our forefathers and mothers who have preceded us in the same faith, as we continue to carry out our Lord's mission and ministry into the future.

IRA ROLLOVER PROVISION TO SUPPORT LCMS MINISTRIES
Federal legislation has opened new stewardship opportunities to strengthen ministry. The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 allows an individual over the age of 70 1/2 to make a gift up to $100,000 from an individual retirement account (IRA) to ministry without increasing taxable income. The gift to ministry also counts toward the individual’s minimum required distribution. This provision in the legislation is sometimes called the IRA Charitable Rollover.
If you are interested in taking advantage of this special rule contact your IRA account administrator for the necessary paperwork to complete the transfer.
Act quickly if you would like to take advantage of this special rule in 2008. To ensure that the transfer qualifies, the check from the IRA account administrator should be received by the ministry by December 31, 2008, or at the very least mailed to the ministry with a USPS postmark date of December 31, 2008 or earlier.
THRIVENT GIVINGPLUS PROGRAM: If you are a Thrivent member please complete the form for GivingPlus. So far in 2008, members contributions have totaled $24,055. You may give up to $600 which Thrivent will match $.50 on each dollar. Forms are available after services or at the Church office.
